Let's take a look back to early 1961 and what was in the news at the time:-

Nelson received its first, and as far as we know only, visit from a United States Deep Freeze aircraft when this Dc4, with some animals to be mounted and stuffed, landed at the airport.

End of the railway link to Blenheim. Heavy machines move out of railway building sites.

Veteran walker, Mr A. H. Reed, called on Mr Charlie Duke, during his ramble round New Zealand.

An historic landmark disappears to make room for a car park on the corner of Trafalgar Square and Nile Street. It was the old home of Dr Bett, and was about 100 years' old.
