A young Wellington girl, Liz Hayworth, an unwilling entrant in the Miss Tahunanui Beach contest, walked away with the title after 10 girls had paraded at the beach. Patricia Collins, of Nelson, was runner-up, and Lauren Francis, Lower Hutt, was third (picture, top left). In the Miss Teenage contest, place-getters were Pam Wright (Richmond) 1st, Paula Clemence (Christchurch), 2nd, and Theresa Johnston, Nelson, 3rd (pic above).
