New mall opened

The Fletcher Trust 's new swept-up shopping centre, the Hardy Mall, was opened in the middle of last month on the scheduled date. But what a tremendous amount of activity there was in the late stages to have the building at a stage where it could be opened. The work had not been completed when we went to press, but the huge Self Help store and the shops that have been let were all operating. Eight shops comprise the "mall" section of the building, but the largest block is a 6500 sq ft supermarket and a huge second-storey and ground floor for the Social Security, Child Welfare, Government Audit Departments and the Ministry of Works. The payout office of the Social Security Department is on the ground floor. In addition, a parking lot to take 126 cars has been laid.
