Secondary schools hockey tourney
The Nelson College First XI won the inter-secondary schools hockey tournament played at Nelson during the term vacation. The team was unbeaten at the tournament in which 10 teams competed. Wanganui, runner-up to Nelson, lost only one match – to Nelson, in the final.
Nelson captain, P. Gibbons, receives the trophy from Mr Brian Cox, president of the New Zealand Hockey Association.
Wanganui goalie, P. Andrews, made many great saves during the tourney and was unlucky not to be chosen in the representative team.
