"Showboat" Coming Soon

The lovely musical, "Showboat", by Jerome Kern, has been chosen by the Nelson Operatic Society as its 1966 production. The chosen cast has been rehearsing now for many weeks and scenery and costume preparations are now well advanced. As we would not have the opportunity of showing something of this wonderful production in our September issue (the show will run in the Theatre Royal from September 10 to 17), we attended one of the rehearsals recently to get these pix. As can be seen from our front cover, the costuming is up to its usually high and colourful standard. The lead roles are those of Magnolia (Barbara Lane), Gaylord Ravenal (Neil Thompson), Captain Andy and his wife Parthy Ann (David and Joyce MacKenzie). The humorous situations will be exploited by the comedy team of Yvonne King (Ellie-May Chipley) and Warren Bromell (Frank).
