After Don Merritt, managing director of Kirbys, had presented Joe Scott (25 years), Charlie Costello (15 years) and John Rhodes (10) with watches to mark their long service to the firm, Roy Trewern, the longest serving employee dropped a bombshell for Don and Mrs Merritt, when he presented them with their own long service award - a silver tray, jug, and 12 crystal glasses, a mark of appreciation from his staff.
