The M.C.C. came —and so did the Rain
Months of preparation had been put into the pitch; the Nelson team was in good form and then, after the visiting M.C.C. team had scored 332 for six wickets declared, the rain came and ended Nelson's innings at 114 for seven wickets and the match on the second day - an unfortunate finish to a game which hundreds in Nelson were anxiously awaiting. All was not lost, however, for on the first day those able to attend saw R. M. Prideaux score 88 and bring up his 1000 runs on the tour and R. W. Barber made a fine century. Most successful Nelson bowler was Brian Jewell who took four for 91.
