Golfing Grannies At Greenmeadows

Grannies from all parts of the Nelson province gathered at Greenacres Golf Club earlier this month for their annual tournament. But these grannies weren't the frail little women the word "granny" conjures up. No gran who can belt a ball 150 yds down a fairway is deserving of this "granny" category - not to our way of thinking, anyway. They had a wonderful time on a wonderful day.

Catering for the grans were Phil Harley, Connie Atkinson, Edna Joyce, Lois Chamberlain, Audrey Nicholls, Hugh Wyllie (starter), June Russell, Noelene Fowler and Bebe Rowe.

Nothing frail-looking about these grans: Pat Whelan, Lee Burdon, and Nettie Curnow.

Short handicap players (and at one time or other all Russell Grace Cup players): Joan Anderson, Peg Mills (Marlborough), and Gwen Crossmann.

Peg Ellery, grimly determined, lines up her drive while Joan Last, Mid St John, and caddie May Baigent keep an eye open.
