"Time, Gentlemen" For The Last Time At The Trafalgar

The Trafalgar Hotel, which has served the travelling public and the public of Nelson for 59 years, closed its doors on June 30 at 6 p.m. The licence expired at midnight and the property is for sale. Its end . as a hotel was hastened by the Licensing Commission's report which ordered extensive alterations. However, its site on the corner of Bridge and Trafalgar Streets, is an extremely valuable one. It was on this site that the first Trafalgar Hotel was built, about the 1860's. This was demolished in 1906. The old pub was given a rousing send-off by its regular patrons, but for some it was not a very happy occasion. Some had been patrons for many years.
