Fishing Survey

A New Zealand-wide agitation to make the most of the country's fishing resources has not passed Nelson by and news that the big British fish Canning firm of Whiteside and Company was interested in setting up a cannery in Nelson, recently touched off a survey of the potential of pilchard fishing in Nelson coastal waters. With two members of the Marine Department on board, Mr Tom Dorman took his big cabin cruiser "Katoomba" to sea in a fishing survey which had not been completed when this issue went to press. Unfortunately, the survey has been hampered by bad weather and little information was garnered from the first two weeks of investigation.

Nets and traps were stowed (possibly a little time might be found for a little crayfishing, also).
