South Island Golf Titles
With a final record-breaking round of 67, Stuart Jones, Napier, a New Zealand representative, won the South Island championship at the Tahuna links. His 287 for the 72 holes was five strokes better than the runner-up, national amateur champion John Durry, Wellington. The course was fairly heavy after recent heavy rain and this affected many of the scores. Third place went to the young Otaki player, R. H. Knight, who led the field on the first day with rounds of 70 and 72, but who slipped with final rounds of 77 and 75.
It will be appreciated!
New Zealand golf councillors Vern Hollis, Ken Glendinning (both national selectors), Eric Coote and Joe Goddard, got a game in the day before the championships began.

John Means (Wanganui) drives off during a practice round while Ken Jones (Nel), Iaian Duffy (Oam-aru) and Ted McDougall (Auckland) look on.
The young Blenheim player, J. H. Morgan, had 307.
