Women's Institute Drama Contest

The Motueka Women's Institute, with its first-class presentation of "Women Within Walls", the story of life in a women's prison, won the Nelson-Motueka section of the Women's Institute drama contest and the right to compete in the South Island final in Blenheim. By the time this is published the final will have been decided. The other contesting institute was Tahunanui, which presented "From Five to Five Thirty". The contest was judged by Mrs Rene Cotton. While commending both casts on their performances, we would like to add a special word of congratulation to Shirley Lockhart, of Motueka, for her wonderful acting as a hardened first offender in "Women Within Walls". All shots on this page were taken during this play and on the second page of the Tahunanui Institute's production.
