Record Run To Christchurch

The Nelson-Christchurch relay record was'slashed by 3hrs 40 mins by a team of 70 members of the newly-formed Trafalgar Harrier Club last month, Midget, joggers, women, junior and senior runners were split into groups of 12 to cover 40-mile sections. The team, which started from Nelson at 12.30 pm and ran through the night and in to Christchurch 10 minutes before 24 hours, was sent on its way by Mr W.E.Rowling, M.P. for Buller. He handed a message written by Nelson M.P. (Mr Stan Whitehead) to first runner, Bill Miller, and nearly 24 hours later the message was handed over | to Miss Mabel Howard in Christchurch. A great effort!
