As part of its programme the surf club conducted a bathing beauty contest on the beach. There were 13 entries, and the winner, Miss Marcia Langrope, represented Nelson, as Miss Tahunanui 1961, at the Miss New Zealand contest at Tauranga. That's Marcia, directly below.
