Aid to Skin Divers

A crowd-stopper around Rocks Road one bright Saturday afternoon last month was this underwater skin-diving torpedo, or submarine, built by Malcolm Hume, of Blenheim. The idea is that Malcolm, in skin-diving gear, lies on, or hangs onto, this contraption and is driven around the sea-bed. The machine is powered by a tractor battery and the stabilisers, fore and aft, allow him to manoeuvre quickly and smoothly.
