Nelson "Railway Station" Opened By Minister

×

Transport and freight is big business in Nelson. This can best be understood when it is realised that in 1938 Nelson Transport carried freight worth £56,000. This year, this vast haulage business handled freight which brought in a revenue of £600,000. Like many businesses, Nelson Transport Ltd had a small beginning, but it has grown to such a size today that it was found necessary to find a new headquarters with room for future expansion. That is why it built this fine freight terminal and office building on the reclamation – Nelson's "railway station", as it was termed by the Mayor, Mr D. N. Strawbridge at the opening ceremony. The building was formally opened by the Minister of Transport (Mr McAlpine) last month. Another block, not shown here, is already under construction to handle vehicle servicing and a further repair block is planned.
