Australians Too Good at Badminton

A combined Nelson-Marlborough team was no match for the touring Australian badminton team when they met at Nelson. The Australians put the pressure on at the start of every game and never relented. None of the games went to the third set, although in the match between Miss Pat Lawther and Mrs K. Nesbit, Miss Lawther held a 5-1 lead in the second spell. But Mrs Nesbit proved too strong and went on to win this set without having another point scored against her.

Some of the men's games produced long rallies and some hard hitting but, as in the women's games, it was the Australians who were in command.
