The Rowlings Gather

Nearly 300 descendants of Thomas and Elizabeth Rowling held a family reunion in the Motueka district 121 years after Thomas ("Hop Ashore") Rowling landed at Kaiteriteri from Captain Arthur Wakefield's ship to obtain water. During the reunion this scene was re-enacted when a party of members of the family, dressed in period costume, rowed around Kaka Point and landed at Kaiteriteri. There was a crowd of about 400 at the beach to see the re-enactment.
