Gold-Studded Shield at Stake

The Ka Ka Shield was at stake in a recent Rugby match played at Richmond. Now this might not be the Ranfurly or Seddon Shields, but it, like its two bigger brothers, is a symbol of Rugby prowess. Since 1923 it has been the trophy sought after in light-hearted vein by Tapawera and Richmond teams. It looks a little rough in parts, but it is quite valuable. Affixed to it are 13 half-sovereigns which represent quite a few bob today. The result of the latest encounter was a win for Richmond.
