Giant Modern Cargo Liner Visits Nelson

The most modern cargo liner ever to visit Nelson, the Mirrabooka, discharged fertiliser here last month. The vessel, 512ft long and weighing 12,620 tons, is the largest vessel in the Transatlantic S. S. Company's fleet. Features of her are the electric cranes which are used more than the derricks with which she is also fitted; a smoke detector and automatic fire-fighting units ; machine-operated hatch covers and all the latest navigational aids.
