Traffic Officer George Reynolds has a look at the stove-in timbers of a Transport Nelson truck. This damage was not as serious as that done to the utility van (above) which crashed into the back of the truck. Driver of the van was Mr Ray Hammond, Waimea county overseer, who suffered severe lacerations to the face when his vehicle was flung across Muritai Street. At the time of the accident the truck, loaded with coal, was stationary.

A waste water pipe from the premises of Associated Fishermen often carries small pieces of fish. The seagull perched on it snapped these up with uncanny speed as they left the pipe. The gull below had a lean time.
