Nelson Ladies' Club Golf Title

Heavy rain which seldom eased during the playing of-the Nelson Ladies' Golf Club's championship final, made the going for contestants and gallery alike extremely trying, to say the least. In the 36 holes of match play Mrs J. Dyke had a convincing win 6 and 5 over Mrs Keith Lummis. Mrs Dyke, no stranger to the club's title final proved too steady for Mrs Lummis, who encountered a lot of trouble handling the wet conditions. Mrs Dyke held a six-hole lead after the first 18 holes and she increased this to eight after the fourth hole of the second 18 in the afternoon. Mrs Lummis, mainly through some very fine chipping and putting, staged a recovery and won back two holes. Mrs Dyke's lead, however, was too large and the game ended on the 31st green in one of the heaviest downpours of the day.
