Wellington 'A' Wins Motueka-Nelson Relay
From go to whoa, the powerful Wellington 'A' team led the annual Motueka-Nelson road relay. However, the 2hr 51min l0sec record, set by Tokoroa in 1966, remained intact, as Wellington was just over a minute outside that time. Nelson, without Rodney Dixon, performed well to take second, and much credit for that placing rests with Bill Coppins, who ran a fast fifth lap to halve Wellington's three minute lead. Greymouth was third. (Thanks to Alan Hunter for about half of the photographs).

The only team which contained four women was Palmerston North. They tailed the field, but it was still a fine effort. At back: Adrian Storey, Barry Trail and John Strawbridge. In front: Judith Cooper, Gail Finley, Carmet Gerke and Val Darroch
