Charlie Condell Brought 'Em Down-77 Straight
Nelson's Charlie Condell shot 77 straight birds, to win the single rise championship at the Nelson-Marl-borough provincial trap shooting championships. In beating Ted McRae of Timaru, Condell became the first Nelson shooter to. win the championship. The event was conducted by the Nelson-Waimea Gun Club and attracted top shooters from many centres.

Other championship winners were Colin Streeter, Amberley (single barrel), Trevor Everett, Belfast (double rise), and Geoff Read, Ashburton (skeet)
Murray Havill, Hokitika, was runner-up, and Vince Peterson won the sparrow event. Both have won an Air New Zealand trip to Australia to compete in the Australian championships
Keen competitors were Brian O'Connor (Nelson-Waimea president), Cliff Johnston (Collingwood secretary) and Bill Mooney (Nelson vice-president)
