Chief Fire Officer Honoured

Chief Fire Officer J. H. Bax, Nelson, who has retired from this position after 12 years, was honoured by the board and members of the brigade at a farewell dinner given in the station. Many were the tributes paid to Mr Bax by representatives from various organisations, and at the end of the dinner the presentation of a cocktail cabinet was made. In the picture above, Chief Fire Officer Bax is shown with Mr H. W. Chisnell, chairman of the fire authority, Mrs Bax, duputy chief fire officer H. V. S. Oliver (who succeeds Mr Bax), and Station Officer C. Lane, Stoke. Below is a section of the large gathering which attended the function.
