Picton Terminal Tower Transported

The control towers for the linkspans at the new Picton ferry terminal will be shifted to Picton from Nelson, by road. The first tower, to which the control cab for the rail linkspan will be attached, was shifted last month. Our pictures were taken at the Pelorus Bridge, where the structure had to be raised above the level of the bridge trusses. The tower is 51ft high and weighs about 17 tons. It took about 12 hours to shift to Picton. The work is part of the contract being carried out by Dorman Engineering Ltd

Two trucks were used to transport the tower across the bridge. The one nearest travelled in reverse
