The Nelson Girls' Brigade Rugby Team scored a 12-0 win against their Marlborough counterparts in a keenly contested match in Nelson during the annual rally. The ground at Nelson Intermediate was muddy in patches but at the end of the game the referee, Bill Watson, was as clean as the whistle he blew. And he almost stayed that way. But the girls had other thoughts. Bill dashed for his car, managed to lock three doors but was dragged out and rolled in the mud a few times. Bill is the muddy looking character in the front row. At the right is the Nelson coach, Ray Davis.
