The passenger in this car died when the vehicle struck a parked truck in St Vincent Street. He was Peter Noel Middleditch, 24, of Puriri Street, Nelson. The driver of the car, Walter James Burns, 23, of St Vincent Street was cut on the face. The car travelled about 70 yards after the impact with the truck, shown.

Two children in the cab of the truck were uninjured.

While H.M.S. Achilles was in Nelson, several members of the crew donated blood to Nelson Hospital. Among the donors was John MacLaughlin and Mrs H. North makes sure he does not lose any extra
