Marlborough Made Mighty Challenge: Bays 11, M'Boro 11

Hands up those who heaved a sigh of relief when the final whistle went.

After trailing 6-8 at the interval Marlborough stormed Nelson Bays line for several torrid sessions. But their chances appeared to slip when Trevor Morris landed an easy penalty for Bays to make it 11-6. Not daunted by this reversal Marlborough set hearts pounding with a deserved try by Jack Gleeson, converted by Graeme Cocks. Marlborough looked set to grasp a last-second victory but Nelson Bays' stout defence held until full time. They had weathered their first defence of the coveted Seddon Shield. Scorers - Nelson Bays: Terry Mitchell a try, and Trevor Morris two penalties and a conversion. Marlborough: Jack Gleeson a try, John Thomson dropped goal, Graeme Cocks penalty and conversion.
