Massed Bands at Takaka

Eleven bands, 300 bandsmen and a crowd of 3000. What could have thrilled any bandsman more? Occasion for all the music was the annual festival of the Nelson, Marlborough, West Coast Brass and Pipe Bands Association at Takaka. The festival commenced with a march-past display along Commercial Street, and later, at the District High School grounds, massed brass and pipe bands' displays were given as well as items by each band.
