Haulashore Wouldnt Shift

"Come on island, get out of the way, " screamed the ship.

Not likely, " retorted the island. "I was here first."

And so the 855-ton coaster Titoki ran aground on Haulashore Island.

The vessel did not respond to the helm while compass adjustments were being made. The Titoki, owned by the Anchor Shipping Co., had just been recommissioned after its annual survey. Luckily the area where it struck was not rocky and no damage was sustained. After an unscheduled six-hour stopover on Haulashore the vessel was floated off with the high tide.

Here the tug Wakatu desperately tries to haul the vessel off the island. But an ebbing tide made the task harder and it was not until six hours later that the Titoki was floated free. The tug was used to manoeuvre the vessel from the shore but did not have to assist otherwise. The Titoki's engines put in reverse provided sufficient power for the job
