Softball National Tournament

Waikato won the New Zealand secondary schoolgirls' softball tournament after close matches with Auckland and Counties. The Nelson team did not fare well but managed to win two matches and at one stage led the strong Counties side 12-6 in their match before Counties pulled out all stops and won 14-12. Eleven teams contested the tournament and the visitors were not disappointed with Nelson's main claim to fame - its weather.
