Nelson'S Newest School

Amid the sawing of timber and the banging of nails 251 Form I pupils made a smooth start to the year in Nelson's newest school- Broadgreen Intermediate. And the co-operation among pupils, teachers and the builders is the main contributory factory to that good beginning. The children were really great the way they got stuck in from the start", said headmaster Neville Butler who was headteacher at Kihikihi, Te Awamutu, prior to this position. Classroom, manual training and science blocks are still being built and the community hall is nearing completion. Twelve teachers began the term at Broadgreen and the bulk of the pupils came from Stoke, Tahunanui, Nayland and Enner Glynn primary schools.

There's still plenty of building to be done. In the left background are two manual training blocks, the foundations in the mid-foreground are for art and science rooms and a library is to be built at the right where the tin shed now stands
