Russell Cup Athletics

The Nelson Amateur Athletic, Harrier and Cycling Club once again proved too strong in the annual Russell and Helsington Cups athletics contest at Takaka. Nelson scored 326 points in the Russell Cup section and won the Helsington Cup, for children's events, with 197 points. But the country, clubs, Mapua and Takaka, indicated they have ample potential in their ranks to press Nelson in future meetings.

The Nelson club relays were smart in their changes and here a fine change is demonstrated by Vicki White as she hands the baton to Evelyn Lidbetter in the under 13 girls' 4 × 100 metres event.
