Children Aid With Afforestation

Since 1954, pupils of schools in the Nelson district have done their share towards halting erosion and increasing the timber wealth of their district, by planting 95 acres of hill country on Spooner's Range. The latest planting, of 12 acres of Corsican pine, brought the total number of trees planted in Coronation Forest since 1954, to about 210,000. In the forest are Corsican pine, Douglas fir, larch and pinus radiata. About 550 children took part this year.
