Jaycee Week

The aims and objects of the world-wide Jaycee movement were widely publicised recently when "Jaycee Week" was held in Nelson. Jaycee is essentially a service organisation and one which has made its presence felt in Nelson since its establishment in 1947. But as well as providing service to the community as one of its main aims, the organisation also, through this service, is of inestimable benefit to young men in outfitting them for community leadership. We covered several aspects of "Jaycee Week" in Nelson and reproduce here pictures taken during the week.

During the week district Jaycees received a visit from Mr Carroll J. Bouchard, community-development programme director for JCI. He is an American. While in Nelson he was taken to see the marker erected by Nelson Jaycees on the top of Botanical Hill and the official centre-of-New-Zealand trig plaque. He is seen at Leftwith Jaycees Brian Mills, a JCI senator and New Zealand vice-president, and Nelson president, Hanley Bowater.

The chapter's biggest undertaking during the week was the distribution of collection boxes to householders, in aid of the Jaycee milk biscuit appeal. Here a big party is ready to set out.
