Nelson sportsmen in two sports, rugby and hockey, gained national selection recently. All five Nelson trialists in the North v South hockey match gained selection for the minor association&'s team to tour Queensland - an outstanding effort. As well, Nelson Bays forward, and All Black trialist, Terry Julian, was chosen for the Junior All Black side which played and beat the touring Fijian side.
