The annual inter-school public speaking contest of the Nelson branch of the Royal Overseas League was held during Education Week. The subject was "Sport and Politics: To mix or not to mix". Winner was Nelson College 7th former, Michael Webb. The judges also commended the speeches of Don Black (Nayland College) and Susan Reidy (Sacred Heart College).
