For Milady

Recipe for the Month

This month's recipe, ladies, is a favourite of the family of Mrs Anne Jones, 2 Pateke Street, Stoke. It's "Sweet And Sour Beef".

Ingredients: Two pounds round steak; seasoned flour; dessertspoon butter or oil; ½ cup chopped onion; ¾ cup water; 1 crushed clove garlic;½ cup tomato puree; 1 dessertspoon made mustard; 2 cups mixed vegetables (carrots, green peppers, celery); 1 cup well-drained canned pineapple pieces.

Method: Cut steak into 1½ in. cubes and toss in seasoned flour. Heat oil or butter, and cook meat and onion until browned; add water, cover and simmer for an hour.

Add garlic, tomato puree, vinegar, brown sugar, mustard. Bring mixture back to the boil, add prepared vegetables, cook with lid on until vegetables are tender but still crisp. Add pineapple and adjust seasoning. Serve with boiled rice.

The World of Fashion

Trathens had a fashion parade recently and we got a few pix of the models and the fashions. Here are two of them.

At Top Left is Paddy Cato wearing a bright green coat-frock with twin pleats and button-through styling. The material is 100% virgin wool and was made by Southwell. Cost: $34.95.

Kathleen Logan models a brown-black two-piece suit in pure wool. The suit features a tie belt and two pockets. A two-tone hat in matching colour heightens the effect. This suit is also by Southwell and costs $39.95.
