Introducing...

Making names for lots of people is Kevin Beach, signwriter. Kevin is married, has two children (could be three by now), and has lived in Nelson all his life. He attended Nelson College and took up signwriting when he left school. He is an assistant group leader with the Iron Duke Sea Scouts, plays senior hockey for Federal, and takes an interest in all sport.

Catering for the reading needs of residents around the Victory Square area are Beryl Willis and Kath Harling, of the Victory Book Club. Beryl is married, has two children, and came to Nelson from Wanganui as a small child. Motor sports are her main interest. Her hubby, Trevor, was a champ mo-bike racer on the beach. Kath, who is single, owns the business. She has lived in Nelson all her life, with a short spell away while working in Wellington. She began as a librarian in Nelson and worked for several book shops before taking over the Victory Book Club. Her main interests? Following the gee-gees, meeting people, and her home.

Flat out on the sewing machine is Pamela Marshall, a co-proprietor of Graydon Alteration Tailoring, Tahunanui. Pamela and her husband came to New Zealand three years ago from Ealing, England, and settled in Nelson a year ago. She has little time for hobbies, but likes to swim.

Behind that gorgeous bit of shrubbery is Clem Boland, managing director of the Nelson Saw and Tool Company. In reality he is the village saw doctor. Clem comes from Murchison and has been in business in Nelson for the last eight years. He's married, has three children, and enjoys his work, shooting and motoring.

Mick Spiers told us he was "just the boy" around Baigents' chain saw department, but in reality he's their service manager. Mick has lived in Nelson all his life, was educated here, is married and has three children, all of whom are married. He retired once, but was persuaded to return to work. He's a keen radio ham (for 40 years), is tied up with the Search and Rescue Organisation, and likes fishing and shooting.
