Mrs Gemma Romano, an Italian, became a citizen of New Zealand after a short naturalisation ceremony at the City Council Chambers recently. She is shown at Right receiving her papers from the Mayor (Mr Horne) who officiated. The Town Clerk (Mr McCullough) is in the background. After the ceremony we photographed Mrs Romano with her husband, children and friends. Looks like there was a lack of liaison somewhere between the schools and the newspapers for the annual Inter-Primary Schools' Swimming Sports held at the Hampden School pool. These two photos were sent in to us. The swimmers are Avryl Hockey and Kevin Higginson, both of Hampden Street School, who won the boys' and girls' 75 yards championships. Avryl was only eight at the time - a very commendable performance.

Forty years' service with the cordial factory of Nelson Breweries ended for Pat Gay just before Easter. Pat, a very well known Nelsonian, makes his last trip to a car before retiring.
