It Never Rains...

Months of drought, then it rains, and rains - 3½ inches of it, in fact, in Nelson city, and most of it overnight. Result was that the river catchments rose well above normal. Worst affected seemed to be the Brook catchment, and the Brook stream was unable to cope with the overflow. The roadway of Westbrook Terrace (Below) was scoured out in two places, and further downstream the rushing waters undermined retaining walls. Worst hit was Mr Ron Hill, seen Above inspecting his pigeon house which all but left its foundations. The garage, alongside, was also affected. At Left, Tahuna Beach was covered in debris, but reserves department staff soon had it cleaned up.
