The opening of the new Girls' Central School, around 1906. Does it look familiar? It should. It has been refurbished and today houses the offices of the Nelson Education Board, Shelbourne Street. The then chairman of the board (Mr A. T. Maginnity) stated that the school had cost $5000, towards which the Government had not contributed a penny.

Show day at Richmond, 1907. Those certainly were the days! Let's quote the menu for the day in the grandstand lunch room (tariff, 25c):- roast goose, duck and fowl, boiled chicken and ham, vegetables in season, sweets and dessert.

Could this be a solution to the big fight over the raising of Lake Manapouri for power for Comalco? This water wheel was used for supplying power to the Parapara Iron Works at Collingwood at the turn of the century when the company was working the iron sand deposits in that area. (Could be Comalco might be interested in this pic!)

Except for the buggies and the old two-decker bus, Hardy Street (looking west) hasn't changed all that much over the years. We're not sure when the pic was taken but we'd think round about 1915-20.
