South Island Gold Star Scamble

It was very evident, right from the opening race, that the greatest handicap to be faced by riders competing in the South Island Gold Star scramble motor cycling events on Simpson's farm would be dust. The course was soon chopped up by whirling wheels and those who didn't get to the front quickly ate dirt throughout each race. The riders handled the tricky conditions with aplomb, however, and some spectacular riding was the outcome.
