Field Day at Tapawera

All the lambs, calves, hosses and children were on their best behaviour last month when they paraded before the judges at the Tapawera District High School's annual field day. The event was again most successful, helped undoubtedly by a fine, hot day.

The black sheep of the flocks seemed to be in a commanding position this year (something to do with spinning, we hear). From left here are Elizabeth Hodgkinson and Nigger and Jennifer Haines and Susie, equal 3rd, and Christopher Ross, with Darkie, 2nd.

Another Nigger, but a different owner. This time Stuart Rentoul is the man on the end of the chain.

The girls and boys of Primer IV and Std 1 performed several Maori numbers. As can be seen, they were made up appropriately.

Another little contestant very proud of her lamb was Beth Hancock.

"But I don't want to have my photo taken, " Sandra Drummond's Hereford calf appears to be thinking.

Another interesting event was the shearing contest. Here Ian Eyles gives this sheep a very short back and sides.
