Rose Sunday

Broadgreen, a blaze of colour in the mid-afternoon sunshine, drew thousands of visitors to see the magnificent display of roses blooming: around the old homestead. Like the previous year, visitors entered into the spirit of the day by wearing rose buttonholes presented to them by pretty rose-givers like Bronwyn Buckland, Janet Sigglekow and Trudy Misman (left). A noted visitor this year was American rosarian, Mr R. V. Lindquist, of California, seen speaking at the opening function (below). A new attraction this year was a children's ballet performance. But what a shame they did not have a rose-setting for their lovely dancing instead of a roped-off enclosure. Perhaps next year? Fancy-Dress parades, items by the Municipal Band and gymnastic displays also helped to make the day a huge success.
