'Twas A Bonny Night
The ball of the year. That was the reputation of the City of Nelson Highland Pipe Band's annual ball at the Stoke Hall, and it certainly lived up to that reputation. Tickets were sold out weeks before the event and many were the advertisements for tickets. The 550 guests had an uproarious time, from the grand parade to the last dance in the wee hours. All the trimmings usually associated with Scottish festivities were present—the pipes, the tartans and kilts and the haggis, and even the heather that festooned the walls.
