New Enzedders

New Zealand gained five new citizens at the end of last month, when five Nelsonians were naturalised in a short ceremony in the Mayoral chambers. The ceremony was arranged at short notice to give four of the five an opportunity to enrol and vote at the forthcoming general election.

Grace Chang, mother of 14-month-old Nigel (a New Zealand citizen from birth) and her husband, Trevor Chang, of Tahunanui. Grace came to New Zealand from Hong Kong and now joins her husband and child as a New Zealander.

Formerly of Yugoslavia, Jure (George) Barbir, who is 21, came to Nelson six years ago and has lived with his uncle, Mr Peter Setka, in that time.

Family group. Zdenko, Desa and son Paul Freka, formerly of Yugoslavia, all took the oath of allegiance and were welcomed as new citizens.

The Mayor, Mr Horne, presents Paul with a small silver fern as a souvenir of the occasion.
