Nelson V. Bay Of Plenty

The touring Bay of Plenty Rugby team was not as superior to Nelson-Bays as its winning score of 25-14 would suggest. The Bay of Plenty backs ran with more purpose than did their opposites and the forwards showed more enterprise and dash in the first half, but Nelson came back very strongly in the second half. It was the shocking tackling by Nelson-Bays that gave the visitors their decided edge in the first half of the game. Too many gaps were left open too often in the inside back positions, especially between first and second five-eighths, and these were greedily accepted by the hard-running Bay of Plenty first five-eighths.

Nelson-Bays, half, M. Neale, is just too late to stop ppposlng half L. Munro from feeding his backs.

Nelson-Bays wing T. Mitchell scoring the first of his two tries and, below, A. James, a particularly fine wing, scores again for Bay of Plenty.

Untidy ball and the Nelson forward pack drives through.

Some of our almost non-existent tackling.
