Old and New at Motor Show

The latest examples of the car manufacturers' craft rubbed bumpers with some oldtimers (but just as brilliant in paint and body work) when Nelson Jaycees presented their 1969 Motor Show in the Montgomery car park. One of the most interesting of the old cars was this 1926 bull-nosed Morris Cowley which Rowland Wills and Eddie Beatson are examining closely (left). A view of the show is above. More than 5500 paid admission to see the cars.

One of the biggest vehicles displayed was this American Ford ranch waggon. It is 18ft long and, with additional seating in the rear, could accommodate about seven adults and the same number of children.

Most visitors to the show made straight for the stand which featured Keith Roper's Alfa Romeo (above) and John Reid's Lotus (left). Some were disappointed with the Lotus - it wasn't complete with Tara King!

So engrossed was Williaa McGavock in the engines, he didn't see us line him up for this pic.

The components of a Nelson-assembled Triumph 13/60 saloon, and the New Zealand-made components included in the car, were displayed by Motor Assemblies.

N.A.C. had a big display stand, the dominant feature of which was the huge model of a 737 jet (below), and a working, cut-away model of one of the 737 jet engines (left), being inspected here by Wayne and Christopher Jackson.

One of the most elegant cars was the new 4.2-litre Jaguar.
